Iraqi Insurgents Launch New Attacks, Causing More US Casualties

Baghdad, Dec 23 (Prensa Latina) A US soldier died and another two were severly wounded when a home made bomb went off on a roadside in western Baghdad, the US military reported Thursday.

The rebel action was targeted at a Task Force patrol making a routine round in the capital.

Meantime, the insurgency continued attacking the forces subordinated to the US command in this region, killing four troops of the Iraqi National Guard and wounding several others in military barracks in Mansur.

Similarly, Al Arabiya informed today that seven people died and 52 were injured after a gas tanker exploded in the Mahmudiyah district, in southern Baghdad.

A total of 1,321 US troops have been killed in Iraq since the beginning of the war in March last year, and about 10,000 have been wounded, most of them seriously.

The US command said it was still investigating the attack yesterday on a military compound in Mosul, northern Iraq, which left more than 20 soldiers dead and over 50 injured. The wounded are been flown to hospitals in Germany.
