Bullet-Stopper Conscription: the Jenna OptionThe Christian Science Monitor has a fairly decent run-down on the possibility of bullet-stopper conscription, otherwise known as indentured servitude or slavery. Charlie Moskos, a professor of military sociology at Northwestern University, asked military recruiters the following: “I asked them would they prefer to have their advertising budget tripled or have Jenna Bush join the Army. They unanimously chose the Jenna option.” Advertising does not draw kids in like it once did and for obvious reasons: average every day Americans are now beginning to see the human result of the Strausscon plan in the Middle East—soldiers returning in coffins, minus arms or legs, seriously disabled, or reduced to mental basket cases. Given the choice, millions of young people would rather forgo college and work at Wal-Mart or Home Depot and remain in one physical or mental piece, albeit poor, instead taking the chance of becoming a victim of a roadside bomb in Iraq.
In an article appearing in Rolling Stone, we are told that “unless ‘America’s elites’ are willing to join the military, it will be harder for them to persuade ‘average Americans’ to make the same sacrifices.” Remember Dick Cheney declaring during the Vietnam War he had “other priorities” and you get an idea of the problem. Think of Bush walking away from the Texas Air National Guard to drink booze and possibly snort coke and not facing any repercussions. Warmongers such as Dennis Hastert, Dick Armey, Tom Delay, Bill Frist, Mitch McConnell, Rick Santorum, Trent Lott, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, and others either avoided the draft or did not serve in the military.
“Since the Army’s fiscal year began last October, it has only signed 18.4 percent of its target of 80,000 new recruits. That’s less than last year’s and well below the 25 percent target the Army had set for itself to meet by this time,” reports the Christian Science Monitor. Lt. Gen. Franklin L. Hagenbeck, the Army’s personnel chief, admitted the problem is Iraq. “Well, let’s wait and see how this thing settles out in Iraq,’” he said. “For the active duty for ‘05 it’s going to be tough to meet our goal, but I think we can. I think the telling year for us is going to be ‘06.” For anybody who pays attention the news, even the corporate media filtered news, it is obvious Iraq is not going to “settle out” in the foreseeable future, if ever. Add to this Bush’s saber-rattling directed against Iran and Syria and it becomes obvious the government will soon need a fresh influx of bullet-stoppers.
Add to this the Strausscon letter sent to congressional leaders last month—calling for “at least 25,000 troops each year over the next several years” for “the responsibilities” of Strausscon contrived forever war—and you have a situation that will ultimately result in conscription-slavery. “While the letter contained no explicit call for a draft, peace activists in particular say there is no way for the military to reach these numbers without instituting a draft.”
Of course, the Jenna Option is no option at all since the ruling elite do not send their kids to fight the wars (or participate in the invasions and occupations) they start. Either the Strausscons will be forced to back off their plans to invade (or bomb) Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and possibly Saudi Arabia and North Korea or they will start pushing for bullet-stopper conscription-slavery. Since their raison detre is total war waged against Arabs and Muslims at the behest of the Likudites in Israel, we can expect the latter—and the Strausscon letter sent to Congress is evidence of this, although the authors were careful not to mention reinstituting the draft (or did they offer any other solutions to alleviate what they perceive as an under-staffed military).
In a way, as terrible as it may sound, imposing conscription on young people is a good thing because it will result in an anti-conscription movement in this country. Unfortunately, people usually do not get involved in politics until their own posteriors are on the line. However, the Strausscons and the Bush administration anticipate this and that is why the FBI has been granted new powers to snoop and subvert (essentially legalizing COINTELPRO in the name of fighting the bogus war on terrorism) and also why the PATRIOT Act was passed. Resisting bullet-stopper conscription will be considered treason and fellow traveling with terrorists.
Of course, the rules of the game may change if there is another “terrorist event” in the United States between now and when the Strausscons decide to reduce Iran to rubble (possibly between now and June). If the Strausscons can make it appear that crazed Muslims connected to the mullahs in Iran are behind a terrorist attack—and the corporate media does its part to spread fear and yank emotional fire alarms—then the cell phone generation may scramble to join up and kill Iranians. It will have to be a big bang though to get the required numbers for generational and total war, as prescribed by the Strausscons.
As a token gesture, the Bush twins may even join the Texas National Guard to avoid “service” in the depleted uranium wastelands of the Middle East.
