Shoot first, apprehend later in South Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (OfficialWire) -- 02/08/05 -- The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) have put thugs and criminals and little boys in South Los Angeles on notice: Do not mess with their rides.

According to LA Coroner's Office spokesperson David Campbell, Devin Brown (shown here) died at the scene Monday. Little wonder. An LAPD officer pumped 10 shots into a car, allegedly driven by the teen, after he backed the vehicle into a patrol cruiser following a three-minute chase.

The unarmed 13-year-old boy was fatally shot by a police officer (who was just a-protectin' and a-servin') as the youth was allegedly joyriding in a stolen car.

"The suspect collided with a fence, the officers were behind him, attempted to make a traffic stop, and at that point an officer involved shooting occurred," LAPD Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell said.

Officers involved in the incident reportedly have been assigned to desk duty pending an internal investigation, which should be completed in 72 hours.

The shooting took place just days after County prosecutors announced they would not file charges against an LAPD officer who repeatedly struck a man with his flashlight after a televised car and foot chase, prompting an outcry in the African American community.
