Martin Mubanga, a British citizen imprisoned for three years at the illegally held US base in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, stated Tuesday that Washington military personnel tried to drive him insane there.
Mubanga asserted guards resorted to indirect tortures that succeeded in driving other inmates insane.
"I have seen beatings and humiliating treatment by American soldiers. I"ve heard of various examples as well, and of course I have experienced some of this myself," he denounced.
The Briton said that several detainees had gone insane due to the military´s cruel practices, and he was able to identify those who punished them.
Martin Mubanga was arrested in Zambia in 2002 and was handed over to US officials, who accused him of being an al-Qaeda member, an allegation he has repeatedly denied.
He was freed from Guantanamo in January.
Other former British detainees have also accused US army members of torturing and abusing at Guantanamo and in Afghanistan.
